Loneliness was something I struggled with for a long time, and finding good friends to help me combat it was difficult. The people I was surrounded with, I thought were my friends, but in fact they were people I could not trust and certainly could not be vulnerable with. What made it worst was the fact that I never had a true relationship with God, so I never prayed about my sadness; however, the God we serve loves us even when we do not pray. He had something better in store for me a few months down the line.
I was 16, and it was time for me to move to a new school in order to further my education. It was daunting, but I was happy because it gave me an opportunity to start afresh. All I wanted was to have friends who would have a positive influence on me. I never imagined this would have been the place where, 2 years later, I have found friends for life. Everyday I go into and leave school with a smile on my face because I have found a good base of support.
Even in the midst of our pain and darkness, God is always there, and He will never leave us. He chooses different avenues to reveal who He is to us and the amazing plan He has for our lives. I never would have thought I would see God’s grace in non-Christian people, but that is the creative God we serve! Sometimes in order for us to see who He is and understand whose we are, He needs to place us in a new situation where there is no chaos of our misfortunes in order for us to see clearly and start again. You may not have a huge amount of friends, or you may be waiting on God to show you who your friends, are and that’s fine! Don’t stray away from Him! Keep praying and remembering God is near. I’m praying that God will send you ‘a Timothy who really cares.’ (v20)
