It matters who you hang around, hang around others who uplift and encourage, not gossip and tear down.
In other words #SQUADGOALS!
I’m sure many of us have either seen this particular hashtag or we’ve used it at some point. Squad goals basically means that you and the group of people you associate with are focused, supportive and doing great things. The word of God tells us, iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. When I think of the word sharpen I think of a process in which something is made better. This principal is vital in our relationships and friendships, because, you want people around you who are going to hold you accountable, push you, challenge you and celebrate with you. Surrounding yourself by people who are uplifting and encouraging pushes you to be the best version of yourself. There is a saying that says misery loves company. I always tell people while this may be true, misery doesn’t need our company. So I encourage you to refrain from hanging around those who are always gossiping and tearing others down. It’s even more important that you aren’t the one in the group doing the gossiping and tearing down either. Remember we are to guard our hearts because everything we do flows from it. (Prov 4:23)
One of the greatest examples of the importance of who you associate with is Christ and his disciples. While they weren’t perfect they each had a strength that the other needed. They were the ultimate version of #SQAUDGOALS! It’s necessary to both our physical and spiritual lives that the people we surround ourselves with are people who are of like mind, focused and determined to be all who Christ has destined them to be.
