Finding a community of believers is just as much about how God can use you to help others, as about how God can use others to help you
1 Thessalonians 5:11
When we think about finding community, we often think about what other people can bring to us. But have you ever stopped to think about what you can bring to others? Finding a community of believers is just as much about how God can use you to help others, as about how God can use others to help you.
We all battle our own insecurities and doubts and living in community with others means we can help each other work through these issues and gain freedom in Christ. We often spend our time comparing ourselves to those around us and can be jealous of other’s successes. But God calls us to live in a drastically different way. One of the most important things we can do is instead of being jealous, encourage each other and celebrate their achievements.
Have you ever seen a child react to someone’s praise and encouragement? Their chest swells, their face beams and they continue their task with renewed vigour. We can have a similar effect on our brothers and sisters in Christ. But have you ever looked at the person who is praising the child? Their chest is also swelled, their face beams too and the go about their own work with renewed vigour.
When we encourage others, we speak words of life into our own situations and it helps us to grow closer to God.
Encouragement is infectious and as you start to encourage people you will see them encourage others. The atmosphere in your community will radically change if we spend time building each other up.
Let’s take the time to encourage those around us and build each other up, because as we do, we are building up our own life.
