As women we often feel the need to be cleverer, thinner, prettier, more organized and cooler than our sisters around her
We live in a society of comparison and competition. As women we often feel the need to be cleverer, thinner, prettier, more organized and cooler than our sisters around her. When we see another daughter of God, who has those things we are struggling with, we often feel resentment and can even wish it all falls down around their feet (or maybe that’s just me!).
When we study God’s word, it takes a completely contrary view to this competitive culture. The bible encourages us to encourage each other, to build each other up and to cheer our sisters on. God wants each and every one of us to succeed and we should want that too.
A fabulous story in the bible about celebrating and supporting each other, is that of Naomi and Ruth. Both these women made it their duty to support the other even when times were tough. They cheered each other on and thought of each other, and the result of this was a beautiful friendship, a closeness with God and lots of happiness.
Imagine what our friendship groups, families and churches would look like if we were each other’s number one cheerleader. If when someone achieved something we truly celebrated it. What might happen if we helped others achieve those things we, ourselves, want?
