In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul wanted to encourage the Romans to not allow this world to mold them into its image. He encouraged them to bold in their faith by chasing after God instead, because it was far more rewarding than anything else. Whether you’ve been following Christ for a long time or you’re getting to know Him for yourself for the first time in your life, there’s a good chance that you’ve never started your day saying, “You know what? I’m going to go and conform to the ways of the world today!” For most (if not all) of us, it’s not that simple. We all have some base level of understanding of things that we should and should not do, but what about the gray areas and the things we aren’t so certain about? What about when it comes to:
1. Theological topics you have questions about
2. Issues you’re dealing with in the relationship you’re in
3. Ongoing issues at your job or school, but you have no idea how to do something about it
4. The things you find yourself wanting or desiring, even though you it’s not the right time
Romans 12:2 covers these moments, too. In fact, the entire Word of God does! And the more time you spend with His Word the more clearly you will be able to see that. The reason why is because what feels like a gray area to us isn’t a gray area to God. As followers of Christ, we have a daily opportunity to be led by His Spirit and boldly pursue what brings God glory. We have an opportunity to wake up every single morning asking for His Spirit to guide us and show us the way when it comes to the things we don’t understand. This is what it means to be bold in your pursuit of the Lord. It doesn’t mean that you have it all together and know everything there is to know about God. Instead, it means that you live your life making a daily sacrifice to go before His throne every single day. It means that you don’t just rely on present emotions or your current situation to try and figure things out. It means that you dig deeper. It means you go to Him—about everything, allowing Him to renew your mind and give you strength, courage, and wisdom to navigate through this crazy life!
