Daily Reading :
Today is the day to say “Yes” to what God’s calling you to do. Sometimes we get into the habit of thinking that we can only agree to do those great things He’s asked us to do once we’ve reached a certain life stage in the future–once we’ve completed our education, once we’ve actually got money in the bank, once we’re married, or once we’re out of the trenches of those early years of child-rearing. After all, it’s already been a few thousand years that mankind has waited for Christ’s return–surely we have some time left to accomplish His plans for us? Surely He’s willing to wait a few years for obedience if it means that his servants will be that much more experienced, accomplished, and educated? But that way of thinking is a mistake.
Obedience includes a time-factor. Obedience doesn’t sound like: “Yes, later, when I can schedule it in.” Obedience is a simple and immediate “Yes” in word and in deed. Paul’s words in this passage of Romans ring with urgency. He admonishes us, his fellow Christians, that it’s already past time to wake up. Night is over and done. The day is near. Don’t waste another day in being unprepared for our Savior’s return. Don’t lose any more time in living a worldly lifestyle and seeking temporary pleasure. Choose to put on the “armor of light” and join the battle against evil. Make no mistake–Christ has already won, and now it’s time for us, without any delay, to be ready to do whatever He asks of us. We don’t know how much time there is left–Christ promised that no one would know the day or hour of His return–what we do know is this: We must choose to be ready for Him.
