What’s the big deal about sex before marriage? Why are Christians expected to be “pure” before their wedding night? Isn’t that just an old-fashioned ideal from days gone by?
It might look like no one around you is waiting until marriage to have sex. Even some of your church friends might be sexually involved with their boyfriends. Often times even church leaders will turn a blind eye in an effort not to offend. Tolerance is the message of the day, but, be assured, God doesn’t tolerate our sin. Yes, He forgives us when we repent and turn from sin, but we can’t just live a sinful lifestyle thinking He’ll be okay with it.
Why does God care about sexual purity so much? It’s because He loves us and wants His very best for us! Let’s look at Hebrews 13:4. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure. If you’re still single, you might be thinking, “this verse is about marriage, so what does it have to do with me?”
Purity starts before marriage and continues throughout your lifetime. When you keep your relationships pure, you are being faithful to your future husband, even if you haven’t met him yet!
Maybe you’re thinking it’s too late for you. You have been, or are even now in, a sexual relationship. It’s not too late. If you’re serious about your relationship with God, He will give you the strength to repent and remain pure from this point forward. Our God loves us and He knows that a marriage based on purity is His best for you and your future spouse.
