Have you ever looked at a group of people hanging out having fun and thought, “Why can’t I have that? Where are those people in my life?” Whether you desire this in your personal life, or you’re looking for other people like you in your career field or line of work, it’s so easy to get too focused on what others have. Even if it’s just for a moment, you wonder why you don’t have what they have.
Maybe it’s a group of people at work or at church who never seem to include you. Perhaps even within your circle of friends you still feel a little bit like an outsider, and no one really “gets” you.
If you’ve ever felt that way, understand this: God has much better insight in terms of who you should know and connect with on a deeper level. Sometimes we look at other people or even enter into friendships or relationships with others that we think we need, but in reality, they are not healthy for us.
That is why it’s so important that you hold onto the truth that God is your protector. Today’s passage is a plea to ask God to “hide me in the shadow of Your wings.” This is the kind of prayer we need to be praying when we find ourselves getting frustrated by missed connections or friendships/relationships that didn’t work out. Instead of focusing on what we lost, we need to focus on that fact that if God is our protector and our provider; He is not going to deprive us of what we need.
So when you find yourself getting frustrated, heartbroken, or lonely, pray and ask the Lord to protect you and send you the kind of community you need! He has a much better viewpoint when it comes to what you need, and He will continue to provide for you. So let go of the need to always want what “they” have (whoever “they” are) when you should be focusing on wanting what God has for you instead!
