Day 6 – I know it can feel awkward being single in a world where it seems like everyone’s greatest goal is to find “the one.”
1 Corinthians 7:34
I know it can feel awkward being single in a world where it seems like everyone’s greatest goal is to find “the one.” Maybe you feel a little out of place. Sometimes it can feel like you’re lacking something or that you need to change in order to attract a man. In fact, it can even feel like God has forgotten about us singles. But rest assured, sweet sister – He has not forgotten.
It’s not wrong to want to be married. It’s not wrong to pray for a godly man to come into your life. It’s not wrong to desire a Christ-centered marriage with your future spouse one day. These are good things and I believe God has placed these hopes in our heart for a reason. But I also believe He intends for us to live in the moment, focusing on where He has us now and committing to the work He wants us to do where we are. One day, when God’s plan for our future marriage finally comes to pass, the focus of our time and attention will shift. We’ll have more responsibilities and we’ll be entrusted with the task of caring for, loving, and growing alongside another human being. But while we’re single, God wants to use us in unique ways that we wouldn’t be able to do in any other season of life. There is a reason and a purpose for why He has us here. It isn’t a mistake and He will never be late in bringing us into a new season of life.
Even though it can get discouraging and times and we may be tempted to wonder why God hasn’t brought us our spouse, please remember that He has wonderful things planned for you! His love for you is so deep and He will never withhold His best. He is not keeping us single because we are not good enough. Right now, you are in the midst of God’s best in this season of singleness. But your relationship status could change at any moment, so let’s not waste this time He has given us to fulfill the work He has for us today.
Your sister in Christ,
