Day 9 – God’s ways are truly higher than our ways, so let him lead you to the man whose heart should capture yours!
1 Samuel 16:7
What do you think of when you think about being courageous when looking at a potential relationship? Are you thinking that maybe you shouldn’t be afraid to flirt with that guy you consider way out of your league? Maybe you think you should be willing to “go a little farther” physically than you feel comfortable with. Perhaps you think you should just be like “the other girls” and just look at dating as something to do “just for fun,” without being intentional. While some may consider these things daring or brave, it takes true courage to stand up for righteousness and do things God’s way, especially in our current culture.
When considering a relationship, there is so much more we need to think about than how a guy looks or dresses, or how “cool” his job or ministry is. Consider 1 Samuel 16:7: But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (NKJV) God is concerned with our hearts, and likewise we should be concerned far more with the heart of a potential spouse than his physical appearance or lifestyle. Does the guy you’re interested in radiate Christ, or just cool? Is he honest and committed to his family, job, and ministry, or does he seem inconsiderate or immature? Who are his friends? How does he spend his money and time? And the age old, but very valid question, how does he treat his mother? These are things that will show a man’s heart.
Is there someone you’re interested in? Consider his heart! Or maybe there is someone you know who is a man after God’s heart, but you’ve never even considered him because he isn’t your “type.” To be truly courageous, you need to look more than skin deep. God’s ways are truly higher than our ways, so let him lead you to the man whose heart should capture yours!
