As autumn approaches many of us are tucking our swimsuits back in their designated drawer and unpacking our bags after a nice stress-free vacation as we prepare to go back to work or head back to school. It can be daunting to get back to reality, especially when we’re not very happy in our current position in life whether it be a job that doesn’t feel like the right fit, a relationship that seems more draining than it is fruitful or even the stressful decision of what major we’ll choose or what career path we’ll take post-graduation. Whatever the case, the most important thing we can remember is that God has a purpose in every season and situation we find ourselves in. One of my favorite stories in scripture is about a young man named Joseph who seems to end up in bad situation after bad situation. We first see his story play out in Genesis 37 when Joseph’s father, Jacob (Israel), gives him an ornate robe. Because Joseph’s brothers see how much more their father loves him, they become jealous and devise a plot to throw Joseph into a pit and deceive their father by telling him that Joseph has been eaten by a wild animal. But Joseph’s story doesn’t end there. After being thrown into the pit Joseph is sold to Potiphar as a slave, and to make matters worse he is wrongfully accused of coming onto Potiphar’s wife and is thrown into prison because of her accusations. Yet despite all Joseph goes through he eventually becomes second in command to the Pharaoh of Egypt all because he trusted God throughout the process. Several times throughout Joseph’s story the scriptures tell us that the Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered. Just as the Lord was with Joseph he’s with you, too! You may not know what the future holds or where you want to go in life but you can rest in the assurance that God knows and he’s growing you right now, right where you are to do great things. He is after all the Author of Life; who better to entrust with your dreams and desires than the one who placed them in your heart and mind to begin with. No dream or desire is too big for God, He is so in love with all your wild ideas and your vivid imagination. He delights in knowing you are not afraid to dream big, life-changing, God-trusting dreams. We were all designed with a purpose in mind, a unique purpose that the Lord will accomplish only through us and because of that you are a special treasure to God and irreplaceable to His kingdom. Sometimes we may be in seasons like Joseph where we just feel stuck in the pit, but as we continue to trust that the Lord is guiding us and that His plans for us are perfect, we will grow and transform into vibrant women of God. Where we are on our journey may not make sense right now but in time it will! Continue to invest in your relationship with Christ and you won’t just bloom, you’ll thrive!
