(This is Day 24 from our free 30 day devotional True Confidence)
Do you long to be the kind of person who encourages others in their faith walk? It’s all too easy to lean too heavily on one side and become self-righteous and condemning towards the very women you hope to encourage. And yet, it’s also possible to err too far in the other direction and take a non-Scriptural “everything you do is great as long as you follow your heart” approach. How do we walk between the two extremes and genuinely offer encouragement to those in our communities?
This passage starts with confidence, not self-confidence, but confidence in the blood of Jesus, and it ends with encouraging others in the faith. Pay attention to the progression of ideas in this passage. When we remember who saved us, when we remember why we are free to draw near to God, we have the confidence we need to encourage others without needing to feed any sense of self-righteousness (because it’s all about the blood of Christ!) and without giving in to the temptation to approve the world’s standard of living (because we know Christ is faithful, and such faithfulness demands a faith-filled life in response.) Go out and encourage, because you are confident in the One in whom your faith rests!
