Topic: – A young woman who feels insecure about her outer beauty/body/the way she looks OR a young woman who knows how to look the part but struggles with her inner beauty
Have you ever had one of those days where you just didn’t feel good about the way you looked? Maybe it was your hair or your wardrobe or your weight, or maybe it was…everything. No matter how much you knew inside that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by God, you just didn’t feel that way at all.
Often times when we feel this way, it can be easy to think that’s it’s just a feeling that will eventually pass over and eventually we’ll get over it. Maybe we’ll feel better when we lose those five pounds or when we change our hairstyle. Maybe we’ll feel better when someone finally sees us beautiful or worthy of their affection.
However, if we’re not truly careful, this kind of thinking can become harmful to us.
There’s nothing wrong with self-improvement and it’s not even wrong to desire to be loved and paid attention to. But as followers of Christ, we can’t ever allow ourselves to become slaves to this. We cannot allow ourselves to go through entire days, weeks, or even years of our lives feeling terrible about ourselves. No matter how good something or someone makes us feel, the only way we can ever truly be free is by recognizing that it’s in the Lord where we will find freedom. It is His Spirit that gives us confidence and courage on those days where we don’t feel beautiful or worthy.
This goes for those inner battles, too. Sometimes not feeling good about ourselves has nothing to do with the way we look and everything to do with the way we feel. Maybe your emotions have you feeling like you’re less-than. Maybe your spiritual life isn’t where it needs to be and it keeps you from being able to free to worship and serve the Lord with all of your heart.
If you’re dealing with this, know that it’s never too late or too early in your life to recognize that the Spirit of the Lord provides freedom no matter what stage of life you’re in. He wants you to come to Him open and honest about everything on your heart and have a fresh start, completely free. So go to Him, no matter how you’re feeling today!
