What does thriving look like?
We live in a world filled with comparisons. We are encouraged to compare ourselves to unreachable standards of beauty, we are told we must have the perfect, friendships, relationships, family, grades and job all at once. We are made to believe that a thriving life is one which looks perfect on social media and gets the most likes on Instagram. As women we feel so much pressure to conform to these standards that we spend much of our time bound up in comparison. Thank the Lord that his standards are not the world’s standards!
We are not only guilty of comparing ourselves to the world’s standards but also the women around us in our Christian circles. It is so easy to feel that we are not holy enough or involved in enough of the things going on in church.
When we look to the word of God we see the truth of what a thriving life looks like. Life isn’t about perfect hair, the most followers on Instagram and the best career, our bible verse tells us what it is really all about. It isn’t about comparing ourselves to the Christian women around us and comparing ourselves to them.
In the economy of God, a thriving woman of God is one who chases after justice, who shows mercy to the people around her and one who is close to God, giving him all the glory for the things he has done.
When we place God at the center of our life and stop comparing ourselves to the standards set by the world, we will see our life, our family, our relationships thriving and we will have a joy which is far above the world’s standards.
